Burke Campaign for WI Governor Gains Momentum

Posted: 22 Oct 2014 11:39 PM PDT

With just weeks remaining in the hotly contested race for Wisconsin Governor between incumbent Republican Scott Walker and Democratic challenger Mary Burke, the campaign momentum seems to be changing. Several weeks earlier, polls had shown Governor Walker with a 5 point lead, but after two debates, that lead has been erased. As of October 21nd, the St. Norbert College Strategic Research Institute and Wisconsin Public Radio Poll of likely voters had Walker with a slim 47% to 46% lead. However a new October 22nd Rasmussen Reports statewide telephone survey of likely Wisconsin voters shows Mary Burke with 49%-48% lead over Walker.

Mary Burke was "barnstorming" Wisconsin on Wednesday, October 22nd visiting La Crosse, Wisconsin with her message of encouraging residents to vote early. Burke talked about the lagging Wisconsin economy, jobs, and education. Burke noted that, "Governor Walker has made the largest cuts in education in the entire country."

The crowd was enthusiastic and Burke has been gaining notoriety from many of her "Burke bus stops" throughout the state. A business executive from Trek Bicycle and former Wisconsin Secretary of Commerce, she has performed well in two debates and appears confident in front of audiences and the press.

For the Walker campaign, more news surfaced regarding the continuing John Doe investigation of potentially illegal campaign funding coordination. This week thousands of new e-mails had been released relating to the first phase of the John Doe investigation surrounding Governor Walker's staff. The Associated Press reported, "Walker was never charged but six of his aides and associates were convicted on charges ranging from theft to misconduct in office." Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele's office released 16,000 e-mails relating to the initial John Doe investigation. Governor Walker has claimed the release of the documents now, is politically motivated.

With Election Day looming on November 4th, the race for Governor in Wisconsin is purported to be the tightest race in the United States. News from either campaign may influence the few remaining undecided voters as early voting continues. Stay tuned.

The White House Protective Dog Brenda

Posted: 22 Oct 2014 11:15 PM PDT

Had the opportunity to tour The White House on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at 10 AM. In minutes, had the opportunity to view one of Abraham Lincoln's dinner plates and Abigail Adams coffee urn located in the red room where the Christmas tree is placed every year. The large painting of George Washington in the East room was saved in 1814 during the War of 1812 when the interior of The White House was burned down.

In regards to physical security, I immediately saw a few heavily armored Secret Service men and numerous Secret Service guards wearing their white shirts and their red flag square pin. Noticed the front door now has at least (2) Secret Service men, one in each of the inside rooms and noticed at least two dogs patrolling the external property. Had the opportunity to meet Brenda, one of The White House protector dogs who looked very docile and friendly. There were also several heavily armed Secret Service personnel scattered throughout the interior and exterior keeping a very close eye on this historic building.

It appears the unfortunate man who jumped The White House front fence on Wednesday met Brenda or one of her Presidential guard dogs to stop this unwelcomed visitor. Clearly he did not have an authorized tour pass. Was told that the Secret Service man who stopped Gonzalez once inside The White House was going off duty for the day.

In addition, I heard The White House was planning on raising the height of the fence for further deterrence.

Was great to see the excellent physical security especially in a time when it is so needed.

Dynamic cockpit video inside the Air Force Thunderbirds

Posted: 22 Oct 2014 07:51 AM PDT

ATLANTA -- Soaring with the United States Air Force Thunderbirds is as risky as it is graceful as their F-16 Fighting Falcon screams across an air show crowd.

The aerospace journalist enjoyed an incredible flight on October 17 with America's Ambassadors in Blue, the Thunderbirds. These airmen demonstrate each day the strength which lies within every American.

Official Thunderbirds F-16 aircraft video highlights my flight. The cockpit camera captures both the earth behind myself and the air traffic control audio. The pilots who fly the F-16 call it a rocket since it's weight is far less than it's thrust.

My pilot, Major Michael "Drago" Fisher, put our Thunderbird 8 aircraft through multiple flight demonstrations as we flew upside down, executed roll maneuvers and darted nose up while pulling five times that of gravity.

As Drago yawed the aircraft nearly 360-degrees, the earth's horizon moves and the Sun's rays skirt across the Falcon as he calls out our altitude and heading.

Huge Sunspot AR2192 has grown by 1/3 in size.

Posted: 22 Oct 2014 06:18 AM PDT

This week a large sunspot has come into view from earth and is about to be pointing right in our direction. It has grown in size by 1/3 over the last few weeks and now offers a chance for a huge solar flare directed right at earth. I used a skywatcher 120 with a canon 7d to image this. This was my first time imaging the sun. We shall see what the next few days bring, especially with the eclipse on Thursday.
