YAAM Berlin

Posted: 06 Oct 2014 09:38 AM PDT

In the heart of Berlin -- right next to the East Side Gallery (a painted section of what is left of the Berlin wall) is YAAM, an outdoor club and beach which plays music and serves authentic Caribbean food all day long, right on the river Spree.

YAAM also hosts concerts all year round and is covered with graffiti.

1,562 Pound Very Sincere Great Pumpkin

Posted: 06 Oct 2014 08:53 AM PDT

While out enjoying a gorgeous Virginia afternoon my husband and I decided to stop at one of the many roadside markets.
Nalls Farm Market in Berryville, Virginia caught our eye with hundreds of chrysanthemums, dried corn stalks , Indian corn and pumpkins of every type and color .
The parking lot was packed. We had to make a second drive through to luck up on a space. Lot's of folks out looking for that perfect jack-o-lantern or pie pumpkin .
I know I found mine only it was not for sale.
There he sat in all his pumpkin glory, The Great Pumpkin, all 1,572 pounds of him.
Mr. Larry Checkon from North Cambria, Pennsylvania grew the giant pumpkin. He held the World Record in pumpkin weight in 2006 at 1,469 pounds. His wife held the record in 1999 at 1,187 pounds.
Nalls' Farm is the new home for the Great Pumpkin.
Mr and Mrs Checkon will be visiting the sincere pumpkin on October 26, 2014 to remove the seeds, perhaps hand out a few and answer questions.
The monster pumpkin will then be carved into a jack-o-lantern and featured in the Leesburg Halloween Parade
by Nall's Farm Market, Friday October 31 2014 at 6:00 PM.
If you are in the area sure sounds like a fun Halloween night!
Nall's Farm Market is a must see place especially during the fall. The smell of pies baling inside take your senses on a real trip. We purchased a strawberry-rhubarb and of course an apple pie, homemade apple butter as well as some hot chow chow for those pinto beans and cornbread we love. We could not leave without buying fresh picked apples from the local orchards.
The market was brimming with fresh produce, baked goods and all manner of fresh canned items. Harvest and Halloween crafts were cute as a bugs ear ( that is cute!) .
Garden statues, fountains, pottery and gardening items were for sale as well.
Nall's Farm Market is definitely a must see kind of place.

Mong Kok at around 10/6/2014 3:30pm HKT

Posted: 06 Oct 2014 03:06 AM PDT

These photos and videos was taken at Nathan Road, Mong Kok in Hong Kong at 10/6/2014 around 3:30pm HKT. As part of the Umbrella Revolution, partial of Nathan Road was occupied. There isn't a single car on Nathan Road and it was once of the most comfortable afternoon I have encountered as I spent most of my grades school years in Mong Kok area. People are walking on Nathan Road taking photos and wandering around which in comparison in a normal day in Mong Kok flooded with buses, cars, and pollution. Today, Nathan Road has became a boardwalk for Hong Kong people.

Day 9 of the umbrella movement

Posted: 05 Oct 2014 10:36 PM PDT

As I walked through the usually busy and bustling district and home to one of occupy central's demonstrations, Causeway Bay, on my way to work, I spotted a few students on the streets, still asleep. Today, protesters are expected to retreat after the government set a deadline to clear the streets. However, it seems like some are still holding down the fort.

Thousands of Syria refugees flood into Turkey

Posted: 03 Oct 2014 08:57 AM PDT

CARE humanitarian aid worker Kathryn Richards captured some faces of the hundred of thousands of refugees who have streamed across the border into Turkey over the past two weeks when the town of Kobane came under siege.
Many of them fled with only the belongings they could quickly gather, walking for hours with nowhere to go. They haven't been able to bathe for days, and some women have resorted to washing their clothes in the toilet bowl to prevent infection. They wash their clothes in fear, and hesitate to use the toilet to relieve themselves, as they are afraid and embarrassed of using the latrine in front of the men who are using the bathroom to shave. Men and boys reported feeling anxious that sexual violence could occur here against women and girls, and given the brutality they have fled from at home, it is easy to understand why they are scared. They shared, through tearful eyes, about their children being unable to sleep, of their young sons and daughters having nightmares about being kidnapped and torrid dreams that their mothers and sisters will be raped.

They are in desperate need of shelther, food, clean water and hygiene items.
