Pro-Palestine protest in Times Square

Posted: 26 Jul 2014 05:58 AM PDT

Approximately 1000 protestors gathered in Times Square late Friday afternoon calling for an immediate end to deadly violence in the Gaza Strip. Those attending identified themselves as Palestinian-Americans and American Muslims who have family and friends living in the war-torn Middle East. Entire families attended the demonstration on 42nd Street.

Speakers addressed broader issues as well, accusing Israel of war crimes and calling for an end to US aid. They waved flags and held emotionally charged photos of children who have died during the ongoing Israeli assault on Gaza.

The demonstrators left Times Square and marched to the Israeli Consulate near the UN where they chanted "Free Palestine" and "Stop the killing, stop the war!"

The protestors were peaceful but there were several tense moments in front of the Consulate as passersby confronted them and accused them of supporting terrorism.

The protest was part of the International Day of Al-Quds and ended peacefully at 9:00 pm.

DEMO AND PROTEST IN BERLIN

Posted: 26 Jul 2014 12:23 AM PDT

The pro-Palestinian solidarity demonstration called "Al Quds Day" took place on July 25th in many German cities that included Berlin, Stuttgart, Mannheim, Bonn and Bochum. Berlin had the largest with 2300 demonstrators. The march started at the underground station Adenauer Platz in downtown West Berlin, proceeded down the main street of the Kurf├╝rstendamm, and ended almost 2 km east at the underground station Wittenbergplatz. Along the way, the demonstrators were met by two pro-Israel protest groups "No Al Quds Day" and "Solidarity with Israel". There were numerous tense moments during the demonstration but hundreds of police ensured that no direct confrontation between the rival groups occurred that could have escated into violence. About 400 police lined the streets on both sides and acted as buffer zone to keep the two groups separated from each other. To discourage any violent conflict, strict rules were enforced by the police that included no ant-semitic slogans and burning of the Israeli flag among others. The march started at 2:30 p.m. and lasted peacefully after 4 hours. Only a couple of minor arrests were made due to failure to conform with demo rules and attempt to inflict bodily harm.

She is a huge fan of Thor and Loki and made her costume.

Photo 2 - Ashely Danielson, Santee California
She didn't know about the new Thor before she started building her costume.

Who wore it best?

Pro-Israel supporters gather outside of the CNN Center

Posted: 25 Jul 2014 03:39 PM PDT

On Friday afternoon outside of the CNN Center in Atlanta, Georgia, a crowd of Pro-Israel demonstrators grew as men, women and children waved flags, held signs and cheered at cars passing by that honked in support.

Among the protesters were local militia-men with assault rifles, Orthodox Jews performing prayers with the Tefillin and Christians passing religious text.

The rally began around 2pm and was scheduled to end at 4pm, when Pro-Palestinian demonstrators were set to begin their own protest but many were already arriving early. Among them mainly women, children and young men holding signs denouncing Israel's actions.

The APD was out in full force to protect both sides. Tensions were already growing between them as both parties hurled accusations and exchanged heated words across the busy intersection of Marietta Street and Centennial Olympic Drive.

As I walked through the crowd I overheard many express their concern over violent retaliation on either side. Since my last report the crowds have swelled to reach in the hundreds with equal representation on both sides.
