Too many stars to count

Posted: 23 Jun 2014 08:09 AM PDT

Last summer, after being inspired by a fellow-staff photographer at the newspaper where I formerly worked, I decided to try some night photography. I have been hooked ever since. These are photos I have taken around Vermont over the last couple of months.

The first photo, is a shot of the Milky Way rising over the horizon with a bit of added color from a Coronal Mass Ejection that happened around June 19, 2014.

The Second shot is the same location as the first, looking towards the west. There is still some residual color in the sky that I am guessing was Aurora related.

Photo 3 is a barn in the Vermont town of Cabot with a streetlight providing a little extra illumination.

Photo number 4 is a meteor flaming out over a farm in the tiny town of Cabot Vermont.

Photo 5 is a crescent moon rising over Camel's Hump in central Vermont.

Photo 6 is a photo of the night sky taken from an overpass in the Vermont town of Berlin. The passing traffic is transformed by the slow shutter speed into streaks of light.

Photo 7 is taken on the shore of Berlin Pond, in Berlin Vermont with some unexpected color being cause by city lights reflecting off the clouds.

Photo 8 is the setting sun captured from the top of a mountain pass in Waitsfield Vermont.

The final photo is a tree in a field at sunset near the Vermont town of Barre.

More than 200 members of the European Gay Police Association (EGPA) marched in the streets of the German capital during the parade that marked Berlin Pride 2014, also known as Christopher Street Day or CSD. The association consists of members from 13 European countries where homosexuality is accepted and protected under the law. The police members came from Germany, Holland, Sweden, England, Scotland, Austria, Belgium, Ireland, Italy, and Spain among others. They were in Berlin during Pride Week participating in the EGPA convention that was attended also by police counterparts from the USA, Australia, and Israel. The association's participation during the CSD Berlin was significant because it marked the first time ever in any country that gay, lesbian, and transgender police members marched at a Pride Parade in full uniform or official police attire. To see uniformed police men, women and transgenders marching in a gay demonstration is not only historical but also symbolic and ironic when remembering the past. The start of the gay movement was sparked by the NYC riots in 1969 resulting from police violence against gays and transvestites in the Stonewall Inn located at Christopher Street......the very reason why today Gay Pride is celebrated in many countries all over the world.

Papa and his First Chevy

In the attached photo, my father, sporting his leather jacket, stands alongside his 1959 Chevrolet Bel Air ... the epitome of cool! It was his very first automobile. Dad purchased it used and paid all of $295.00 for it. It was a column stick shift and he was accustomed to automatic transmission. He had to learn how to drive it. He tells me it turned out to be a very good car ... the first in a line of Chevies. Today Dad is a stroke survivor and my hero. Love you, Dad!

US-Iraqi youth institute perform dramatic play outside of the White House

Posted: 22 Jun 2014 09:50 AM PDT

Group of Iraqi Youth are members of US-Iraqi Youth Institute gathered yesterday in front of the White House to show 5 minutes part of their one hour and half show against the terrorist group the ISIS and asking the US government to support their country and provide weapon to their army." We are not asking the US to send military troops, but provide weapon to our soldiers, also we have millions of volunteers fighters in the streets are ready to fight ISIS, so what we need really is either airstrcks or heavy weapons " sadi members  of the USIYI.

The play was a very touchy, showing group of Iraqi youth working together in one shooping center in Iraq, and they all came from differents sects sunni, shia, kurd, christan and other miniorities, but at the end an ISIS member attacked them and killed most of them-the story and the play has two message to want to deliver by the group; one to show the world we as Iraqi united and politicians who are trying to dived us, second point we are all in dangore because ISIS and other terrorist groups do not respect or accept any relegion and they attacked all relegions

Train In A Storm On 6/21/2014

Posted: 21 Jun 2014 07:59 PM PDT

On the first day of summer I've capture a photograph of a train in a storm. Long before this day I've imagine capturing this photo and many time I've ran out to this train bridge with no success . Although the photos are not exactly like I've imagine in my mind. It's the idea that makes the photo. If you have a plan to what you want to capture is a major part in taking a great photo. These photos were taken on 6/21/2014 in Roseland Florida. After two hours it was a great night to photograph lightning. Most of the times your lucky to get one or two photos but some nights everything goes right. Also a short video of the train and lightning. I hope you enjoy. Always be safe when photographing lightning.

My wife and I caught this beautiful sunset on top the Arc de triumph. We spent the whole day walking and site seeing, and this was such a treat. After we enjoyed the view, we ventured to an outdoor cafe for dinner and drinks. We only had a few days to explore, and look forward to a few more in the future in this amazing city!
