#TakeOffJustLogo Global Demonstrations - Washington, DC

Posted: 08 Jun 2014 09:30 AM PDT

7th June, 2014 - Joining together from across the world, Sufi students assembled in Washington, DC. They gathered, united for one single cause: To have returned to them a sacred signifier of their faith.

Raising their voices, they were determined to finally persuade an Italian fashion designer to acknowledge their plight; an affliction brought about by his hands.

Following demonstrations in Dallas, London, Los Angeles, New York and Dusseldorf; students rallied to end Roberto Cavalli's relentless reticence in misappropriating the sacred Sufi emblem. His silence and dismissal has brought anger, dismay and devastation for a peace-loving global community who has suffered ferociously at the hands of Middle Eastern theocrats, leading to a mass diaspora into the West.

With a 1,400 year old heritage; students of MTO Shahmaghsoudi, organised by their #TakeOffJustLogo campaign and supported by Sufi Rights, are not calling for censorship, but simply attempting to protect the sanctity of their faith.

These peaceful demonstrations are aimed at raising awareness of Cavalli's indifferent and prejudicial use of a trademarked sacred Sufi emblem; protecting it from mediocrity and commercialisation, from being equated to a "snake bite" and "a sign of seduction and lust" - the very antithesis of its true meaning

Torc Waterfall in Killarney National Park, Ireland

Posted: 07 Jun 2014 12:07 PM PDT

A better way to take travel photos in national parks.

I've never been a fan of taking group tours with dozens of people on a giant tour bus that is more interested in dropping you off at souvenir shops than spending quality time at the photographic destinations I really came to see. So, I typically rent a car and drive where I want to go.

This time I rented a BunkCamper and discovered that it offers up dozens of new advantages when traveling and taking pictures. First, it's small enough to go on roads that buses can't drive. It's also compact enough to park in areas that don't offer big turnarounds that buses need.

But even more so, it offers you the opportunity to out-wait your fellow tourists, to get the shot you really want, when things are crowded at the particular attraction you are trying to capture.

Case in point, at Turc Falls in Killarney, Ireland; there was a German family crawling all over the rocks at the base of the waterfall. I waited maybe 15 minutes and they didn't show any signs of leaving. Other photographers were starting to shout and they still didn't move.

Instead of getting involved in the fray, I merely walked back to my camper and spent a half-hour editing my photos from the previous day and enjoying a cup of coffee. Having that flexibility was great, because it would have been too long to drive back to a hotel, but with my house on wheels, I didn't waste any time at all.

When I returned to the waterfall, I basically had it all to myself.

Uluru- Kata Tjuta National Park, Australia

Posted: 07 Jun 2014 09:47 AM PDT

This photo is of Kata Tjuta, the sister of Uluru, which is also known as Ayer's Rock. Though Ayer's Rock is more well known and iconic, Kata Tjuta sits 40 minutes away, and is made from the same type of rock. At sunset, which is when this photo was taken, the red becomes an alive and fiery color that no photo editing could ever replicate. Though this site sits in the Outback of Australia, it is a must see. There is a great hike that spans the area of Kata Tjuta, and unlike Uluru, is more accessible and respectable to climb on.
