Carlsbad Poinsettia Fire Gets out of hand quickly

Posted: 14 May 2014 03:15 PM PDT

I work and live in Carlsbad California. This morning while at the office we were advised of a fast moving fire just 500 meters from the office. We received a Reverse 911 and evacuated.

Of interest you'll notice just after the chopper drops it's payload of water, the dongle clips the top wire of the high tension wire system. Close call.

Although my home is 3 miles from home, sadly it took more than two hours to see if I have a home or not. There are three videos of raw frames to share my trip home. I am currently on a "Standby for mandatory evacuation." and I see the flames a bit closer than should be.

We love our Flat-Daddy Airman!

Posted: 13 May 2014 03:30 PM PDT

On March 8 2014, I married the love of my life after being together for 7 years. We got engaged 2 years prior under the moon on a Jamaican beach. We decided to hold off the wedding while I was finishing nursing school. Last year, as I graduated, we booked our destination wedding for Jamaica in 2014. Shortly after our exciting announcement, my now husband Jason was informed that he would be deployed to Afghanistan for his second deployment in April 2014 just one month after our wedding. Master sargent Jason Bowen has been serving our country for 17 years, since he was 18. I was devastated to hear the news. Possible deployment was something that I had always feared but never believed would actually happen. Jason has two awesome boys, Erik 8 and Brady 11, who were also very torn about his deployment. They miss their daddy, their hero. Its been one month since our hero, my new husband, has been gone and we miss him dearly. Before he left we were given a cardboard cut out of our hero Jason. The military does this for families of the deployed and calls them "the flat-mainiac", we refer to him as "flat-daddy". The suggestion on the back of "flat-daddy" is to bring him along with you wherever you go: picnics, grocery shopping, camping, ect. As silly as the task would be to carry around the upper cardboard cut out of your husband, it has actually become a very comforting and fun thing to do! We take "flat-daddy" different places and take his picture! I send these pictures to my husband. Not only does he feel joy that we are thinking about him, it also makes for some humor in a not so humerous situation. I have attached some pics of flat-daddy. We will be away from out loved airman Jason Bowen, but we will be counting down the days and making the best of it. God bless my husband, his children and all of the other military families that are away from there loved ones.
