Good Friday at the Colosseum

Posted: 18 Apr 2014 04:29 PM PDT

"From the cross we see the monstrosity of mankind when it lets itself be guided by evil. But we also see the immensity of the mercy of God, who doesn't treat us according to our sins, but according to his mercy," Pope Francis told the crowd gathered for the Way of the Cross near the Colosseum.

Every year, on Good Fridays, the Pope leads the praying of the Via Crucis (Way of the Cross) at the Colosseum. This year, as in previous years, the space in between the Colosseum and the Roman Forum had a big mass of people and this overflowed to the nearby roads. Pope Francis was greeted by a warm applause as he came in order to begin the prayer which lasted for about two hours.

This year's meditations were written by the Archbishop of Campobasso-Boiano, Monsignor Giancarlo Maria Begantini, with the theme "Volto di Cristo, volt dell'uomo" ("The Face of Christ, The Face of Man").

Good Friday Crucifixions

Posted: 18 Apr 2014 09:54 AM PDT

An estimated 50,000 - 60,000 local and foreign tourists witnessed the annual Maleldo, a Kapangpangan word for Holy Week. It is a re-enactment of Christ's passion which takes place in three key barangays of San Pedro Cutud, San Juan and Sta. Lucia in the city of San Fernando, Philippines.

Among them is the 55 years old Ruben "Mang Ben Kristo" Enaje who was noted for being crucified 27 times since 1985. 2014 may be the final year in which he plans to be crucified and he is now looking for a replacement for his position.

In the Philippines, Good Friday marks by re-enacting the passion and death of Christ, which real nails were hammered in the their hands and feet. The Catholic Church have spoken against the practice.

Approximately 85 percent of 97 million Filipinos are Christian (mostly Roman Catholic).

Glass for Public: Bought and Framed

Posted: 18 Apr 2014 03:42 AM PDT

Mike Levin ( http://MikeLev.in ) purchased a pair of Google Glass through Google's one day only sale to the public just Tuesday, April 15, 2014

Mike received his Glass in the mail on Wednesday. Yesterday I followed him as he went in search of prescription lenses. Along the way and back at the office, I learned about the potential challenges of getting the glasses fitted as well as what Mike anticipates as Google's plans for Glass.

Mike is an early adopter of technology. He was one of the first people in line on the first day the Apple iPhone 5 was released (although he prefers his Galaxy Note 3). See his other videos here, including his million view video about the Rasberry Pi. So glad we had the chance to collaborate!
