Vancouver Public Library is No. 1 among world libraries

Posted: 11 Apr 2014 02:32 PM PDT

Many around the world know Vancouver for its hospitality during the 2010 Winter Olympics. But standing tall in the heart of this Canadian city's downtown core is Vancouver Public Library's central branch - one of the most beautiful libraries in the world.

Vancouver's central branch is part of Canada's third-largest public library system, and was designed to be a meeting place in the city and a hub for emerging culture. The library's mission? To provide a free place for everyone to discover, create and share ideas and information.

Named No. 1 among world information cities in 2013 by scholars at Heinrich Heine University in Dusseldorf, Germany, Vancouver's public library system shared the top honour with Bibliothèques Montréal and topped a lengthy list that included libraries in New York Boston, London, Barcelona, Los Angeles and Toronto.

Researchers in the university's department of information science analyzed the services and spaces – digital and physical – of public libraries in 31 major centres around the world, exploring how they support the digital, learning and creative fabric of their cities.

But this international acclaim is common knowledge to local residents who flock to the library and its 21 branches 6.9 million times a year to borrow everything from books, ebooks, CDs, DVDs, and magazines or attend a free event or class. Travellers from around the globe also rate Vancouver's central library a top 10, must-see attraction - street cred at its finest from the global online community.

Costa Rica impressions

Costa Rica! Vida Pura is the locals say: "Pure life"!
So true! No worries, no headaches and great climate, what else can a traveler ask for?
I have been to the Pacific as well as the Atlantic Coast and in between; including boat adventures in the jungle, stayed in a resort on stilts, slept overnight at the foot of the Arenal Volcano, and traveled through the countryside by bus, what an adventure this was! As a photographer this county is Paradise! Nowhere else will you find in the same day, Crocodiles, Caimans, Iguanas, Monkeys, Parrots, Toucans, Hummingbirds and all sorts of wild animals!
Being part of an organized Tour is a great way to see this country for the first time, they lead you to their most interesting places and their guides are excellent! They do speak English as well as some foreign languages too, some are veterans, having been guides for over 25 years!
The boat Captains are also skilled at spotting wildlife, they can see tiny reptiles from hundreds of yards away and steer the boat there in order for the travelers to see them!
Monkeys are abundant, Sloths too as well as their magnificent Toucans. Of course, no trip to the jungle is complete unless you come back with a picture of the small red poisonous frog! Amazing what nature throws at us!
I have selected a few pictures for your enjoyment,
Have a great trip if you decide to go there,
Vida Pura!!!
