While we were on the Norwegian Pearl for spring break, we spotted this raggedy boat filled with 24 Cuban refugees seeking to make it to the US. Take a look at the rescue effort and the make-shift boat and motor!

Posted: 21 Mar 2014 02:43 AM PDT

It is the third day of the protest. Today, besides taking pictures of the crowd, I walked around several corners and found some heart-touching moments. This part of the story during protest should be shared to the world.

I, for one, don't miss the Metrodome at all. Baseball is so much better in the open air! I live in China at the moment, but summer is coming and so are afternoons spent in the sun, cheering on my Twins!

Parliament Occupation in Taiwan

Posted: 19 Mar 2014 06:15 PM PDT

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TTiGuR8SInA

I am among several hundreds of students and protesters who occupied the Taiwanese parliament building tonight. We are here to protest against the legislative ambush by the ruling nationalist party yesterday, which passed the Service trade agreement with China in a joint committee meeting.

This agreement is expected to cast huge impacts on the life of ordinary people, including considerable job losses or worsen working condition in several industries. It was also feared that the agreement would pave ways by which China could increase its dominance in Taiwanese economy and even politics.

The process of making this agreement has been criticized for the lack of transparency and participation by those affected, and caused great concern in Taiwan. In the last round of cross-party negotiation, it was agreed that the agreement should be debated and voted item by item in the parliament.

However, yesterday the nationalist party broke this promise, passing the agreement with some unimaginable legislative tactic. The violation of democratic value cause outrage of many, so here we are. I can see police deployed around the building now. We need more support to stay on. Please distribute this video to whoever is committed to the principle of democracy, transparency and participation. Help us to stop the undemocratic coalition of some political elite in both Taiwan and China.

The Media Needs to STOP!!

Posted: 19 Mar 2014 09:36 AM PDT

This is just hearth wrenching to watch, as a grief stricken mother is dragged out of the room. She is screaming and being dragged out by officials. 100's of cameras recording and media looking at this like an opportunity to put this mothers face all over the news. It really makes me sick to see. I think we need to see actual news again. I'd like to see what is going on with Russia and other news stories were missing.

It's time for the press and media to LEAVE THE FAMILIES ALONE!! I mean really, stop hounding these poor people. Get back to the news.. We've had enough.
