Marchas en Maracaibo

Marchas en Maracaibo

Posted: 17 Feb 2014 12:18 PM PST

More Winter Snow for Chicago Today

Posted: 17 Feb 2014 09:38 AM PST

On Presidents Day, some 4-8 inches of snow is forecast in the Chicago area. Here is video of nearly white-out conditions on Michigan Avenue around 10 a.m. Flights at Midway Airport have been cancelled today, including ours. The National Weather Service forecasts heavy snow through tonight, snow falling 2-3 inches per hour. Background audio is  plows and machines ready to add salt and clear fresh snow on the ground and public sidewalks.

Exploring NZ's South Island, the Gem of the South Pacific

Posted: 16 Feb 2014 09:57 PM PST

During my semester-long study abroad program in New Zealand in 2011, I took an incredible road-trip with some friends around the beautiful South Island, or "Te Waipounamu" in the native Māori language. We explored the beautiful beaches of Abel Tasman National Park and Golden Bay, crossed through expansive forests and a countryside of grasslands and rolling green hills leading to the snow-capped mountains surrounding Milford Sound, walked across massive blocks of ice at Franz Josef Glacier, plunged nearly 450 feet into the Nevis canyon from the country's highest bungy drop outside Queenstown, and witnessed the breathtaking jagged spine of the island, the Southern Alps. After seeing New Zealand's starring role in Peter Jackson's famous "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, I can honestly say that, yes, it is that beautiful! Even the 4K 48-frame-per-second 3D world of Middle Earth in "The Hobbit" doesn't do the South Island justice. Out of all my travels through North America, Europe, and the South Pacific, I must admit that New Zealand is definitely one of the most beautiful and awe-inspiring destinations I have ever visited.

Colonie Coliseum

Posted: 16 Feb 2014 07:10 PM PST

The Colonie Coliseum
The Colonie Coliseum, also known as the Starlite Music Theatre, was operational in Latham, NY, from 1958-1997. Headlining a variety of stars from Wayne Newton, Bob Hope and Johnny Cash to Mike Tyson, George Carlin and Megadeath, the Coliseum seated 1,800 people comfortably in a unique partially exposed amphitheater. Changing hands multiple times over its almost 40-year history, it finally closed for good in 1997 and was left untouched until its demolition in November 2012.

Photographing abandoned places is a particular interest of mine. I have my complete albums available online at www.chamberdoorart.com.

Emboscada a motorizados en Autopista Fco Fajardo

Posted: 16 Feb 2014 04:16 PM PST

Kansas City for Venezuela

Posted: 16 Feb 2014 03:35 PM PST

It was at 4pm at the Plaza in Kansas City.
We are trying to cause awareness for the plight of the people of Venezuela.
The government is fighting against the people who are speaking up about such things as the oppression and the mandated rationing of necessities.
We are attempting to get the attention of America's leaders and/or the UN to see what can be done to help the people of Venezuela.
The Venezuelan government has seized control of all media, even internet communication in order to command total control and hide their actions.
Today's demonstration is the beginning of a movement to, create nation-wide awareness in America of this growing civil-war and to, for instance, encourage the UN to go in and see what the Venezuelan government is doing.

Abandoned in Denver: The Gates Rubber Factory

Posted: 16 Feb 2014 12:19 AM PST

The Gates Rubber Factory was once the largest producer of power transmission belts in the world. Operating in Denver since 1914, the site has been closed since 1991. The buildings have been abandoned for decades now and after 85 years of cranking out more transmission belts than anyone else in the world, the ground beneath the site is contaminated and requires an extensive environmental rehabilitation effort.
And so the iconic Gates Rubber Factory is being erased from South Denver's landscape and another landmark that represented Denver to me for so long is disappearing forever.

Violent clashes in Altamira (Caracas/Venezuela)

Posted: 15 Feb 2014 07:47 PM PST

Students gathered around Altamira square (Caracas) and a small group of youngsters started a riot against the Bolivarian National Guard. This ocurred around 4 until 6pm. The first two videos were taken around 5:15pm, moment when the officers started an offensive against the protesters.

The second set of videos are around 8:30pm. Those were taken in Chacao, where a group of individuals with covered faces, attempted to set fire to a public building. They started a fire with some garbage bags in the middle of the street and then the Police of Chacao district handled the situation: extinguished the fire and calmed the protesters.

Minutes after, a group of the Bolivarian National Guard came in violent fashion, shooting and throwing tear gas to disperse all the protesters, which caused a fight back by the youngster that were previously calmed by the local police.

In matter of minutes, at least 6 street corners around Chacao were set on fire. And agents of the Bolivarian National Guard started to shoot and suppress the protesters.

I have to admit that the local police (Chacao) displayed an outstanding performance, very professional, even emphatic with the crowd of protesters since most of them behave peacefully and non-violent. The downside was the behavior of this small group of individuals that were allowed to perform vandal acts, without the intervention to detain them. Instead, their behavior was the excuse for the GNB to attack and disband the protesters.

Venezuelans in Canada

Posted: 15 Feb 2014 03:48 PM PST

Protests in favour of the Venezuelan people. These photos and videos have to get out there for the viewers of CNN every where around the world to see what the dictatorship of a government Venezuela has been doing in these couple of days. People are protesting peacefully and students are getting shot at, poisoned and imprisoned for no legitimate reasons. This is a serious matter to take in consideration because human rights are being violated in Venezuela and leaders from all over the world should see this and not ignore it!

Disappearing Act

Posted: 15 Feb 2014 10:40 AM PST

Two feet of snow fell here in Virginia giving me the opportunity to photograph more snowflakes. I decided to collage the photos in before and after pictures, showing them in full form and during/after the melting stage. With the help of my new macro Olloclip lens I was able to photograph these beautiful flakes during their disappearing act.
