Missing Family in Burauen

Posted: 11 Nov 2013 05:15 AM PST

My brother and his family live in Burauen and we haven't heard anything from then since the storm hit. We also have family in Cabuynan, and Tanuan. So far we have only heard from my Step brother who was in Tabloban when the storm hit and it was devastating news. His disabled younger brother was staying with his wife and daughter has sadly drowned. I am desperate to hear from my brother in Burauen but I know that not only communication but also infrastructure in the area is down. As I understand it no-one has made it in or out of Burauen for 4 days.
My brother, Stephen who is 34 years old and has a girlfriend and 11 year old daughter has lived in the Philippines for 20 years and lives as a local. He has a small shack which would not have withstood the typhoon and I just hope he made it to a safer shelter during the storm. He should have been safe from the storm surge but now his main issue will be with the lack of food and water. I am powerless to help from here especially as the Western Union branch I use to send him money was seen on the news being looted!
If I can be of any help out there for him and his family I will, without hesitation, fly out.

Communication in Bohol

Posted: 11 Nov 2013 01:03 AM PST

In order to communicate people need to load their mobile phone. In Alicia Bohol there is a gas station that has a generator. Many go there and people line up to load their mobiles to get in contact with family. Electricity is expected to return in many weeks from now.

Obama, Clinton-Republicans Ruin Democratic Presidencies Because of Envy, Greed, Hatred and Jealousy

Posted: 10 Nov 2013 09:31 AM PST

Not much has changed with the Republican Party since 1920. When you look at the grievances expressed in the Democratic Party's Platform of 1920, Republicans were then as they are now- obstructionists and intransigents to progressive reform. At least they've been consistant.
So don't hold out hope that somehow they may one day "get it". They won't- nor do they want to "get it".
They continue to believe that "some people are more equal than others"- the rich and well connected.

Republicans have been thwarting the good efforts of Democratic Presidents like Bill Clinton and Barack Obama and Democrat Representatives in Congress to represent the American People for a long time and their policy and strategy of obstructionism continues today.

The Democratic Platform of 1920 said this about labor in America:
"Labor is not a commodity; it is human.

Those who labor have rights, and the national security and safety depend upon a just recognition of those rights and the conservation of the strength of the workers and their families in the interest of sound-hearted and sound-headed men, women and children.

Laws regulating hours of labor and conditions under which labor is performed, when passed in recognition of the conditions under which life must be lived to attain the highest development and happiness, are just assertions of the national interest in the welfare of the people.

At the same time, the nation depends upon the products of labor; a cessation of production means loss and, if long continued, means disaster.

The whole people, therefore, have a right to insist that justice shall be done to those who work, and in turn that those whose labor creates the necessities upon which the life of the nation depends must recognize the reciprocal obligation between the worker and the state.

They should participate in the formulation of sound laws and regulations governing the conditions under which labor is performed, recognize and obey the laws so formulated, and seek their amendment when necessary by the processes ordinarily addressed to the laws and regulations affecting the other relations of life.

Labor, as well as capital, is entitled to adequate compensation. Each has the indefeasible right of organization, of collective bargaining and of speaking through representatives of their own selection."

In 1920, Democrats fought for workers and the GOP fought on behalf of the owner class.

After Reconstruction, there was a realignment of the ideologies between the parties which flipped them upside down.
President Lincoln's Republican Party became the current Democratic Party that has fought to guarantee rights to all including minorities.
Those that supported slavery became the Republican Party. That same party was also against rights and protections for laborers, women's rights and voting rights for former slaves and minorities that would favor Democratic candidates.

We see this obstruction now with restrictive voting laws in Red States to put off the inevitability of Whites becoming the minority in America.

The Republican Party continue to be against equal rights for all that don't share their narrow ideological view of our World.

They use religion to justify keeping women in the 'rightful place' at home raising the kids, cooking a meals, and doing their knuckle dragging, regressive husbands' laundry and fetching them another beer.

Most of the country has changed. But most Republican views have not- not since 1920 and this is not a real surprise to Progressives.
We see the bullying in our schools and find that it's mostly the children of conservatives that are intolerant of those different then them that are responsible.

Ignorance is truly self-perpetuating.

Ignorant, regressive parents teach their children intolerance for Gays, and Blacks and minorities.
Were we to investigate the political affiliation of the majority of cyber bullies, the evidence would point to someone with a Republican Party affiliation.
Republicans believe that Christians and Christianity are more equal than Muslims or Jews.
After all, according to many fundamentalists, wasn't Jesus killed by Jews?

Many conservatives secretly subscribe to the doctrines of Martin Luther.
" Luther became increasingly critical of adherents of Judaism, writing that Jewish synagogues and homes should be destroyed, their money confiscated, and liberty curtailed."

Hitler read Martin Luther which is what many believe lead him to his conclusions about the Jewish People and the rise of Fascism.
To be a Fascist is to hold God and Country in a higher regard than individual freedoms and liberties guaranteed by law and our Constitutions especially if you're not white or Christian.

The Republican Party's misinterpretation of historical events allows them to justify their cruelty to the laborers and to the poor and minorities. It's less blatant than Germany in the 1930s but certainly reminiscent of that time which lead to the oppression of millions and another World War.

Some people never learn from their mistakes or the mistakes of others. That's why we're destined to repeat the argument with Republicans ad nauseam about fairness and that trickle down, supply side economics doesn't work for the many, just the few, the 1%.

The GOP continue to be opposed to changes in our legislation that would allow all to have the same rights our Constitution guarantees today.

"Believing that we have kept the Democratic faith, and resting our claims to the confidence of the people not upon grandiose promises, but upon the solid performances of our party, we submit our record to the nation's consideration and ask that the pledges of this platform be appraised in the light of that record."
Democratic Platform of 1920

Why do we still have all of the problems with the Republican Party that obstructs everything progressive for our country?
The now Democratic Congress and President continues to compromise to the regressives which sells many back into slavery as did the "Compromise of 1877"- The Great Betrayal.
Democrats continue to compromise with a party that has never compromised in it's history.
Hostage taking and ransom demands?
That's the Republican Party we had then and still have now.

Our news organizations have a responsibility to report the truth regardless of who may be buying ads on their networks.
This is not being done to the degree it needs to be in order for voters to be adequately informed to make sensible choices in elections.
Canada does this.

The United States needs a nation news service that is non- partisan. Then, maybe we could cut the cycle of perpetual ignorance in the South and areas that only have a Fox News affiliate.

Relief Operations

Posted: 10 Nov 2013 04:18 AM PST

The Department of Social Welfare & Development (DSWD) has called for relief goods & volunteers to pack them to be sent out to the parts of the Philippines that was devastated by Typhoon Haiyan. An overwhelming number of citizens from all walks of life have answered to this call, from students, professionals, businessmen, nuns & military personnels. This only shows the "bayanihan" trait of Filipinos that are willing to help their fellow countrymen without asking for anything in return. For volunteers, you may contact (02) 852 8081 to schedule your shift. -DSWD NROC ParaƱaque City, Metro Manila
