Motocross Races In Nigeria

Posted: 14 Apr 2012 11:02 AM PDT

In Edo State, Nigeria, motocross races are being held since january 2012. The import of this story is that the project is the brainchild of a 38year old Nigerian, Mr Okao Oduagbon who has been working to bring the sport of motorbike racing to Nigeria.
Hitherto, conventional belief was that Africans cant do motorsports! The success so far recorded by the Motorcycle Sports Club of Nigeria in three (3) short months since the races started is testament to the potential huge popularity that the sport can enjoy in the country of 150 million people.
To this end, the Edo State Government has commissioned the construction of a 4km Asphalt track for superbike races...a first in Nigeria, West Africa and arguably, the Black World. All thanks to the vision of a young man, Mr Okao Oduagbon to challenge status quo and cause a paradigm shift.
Please bring to the attention of your world wide viewers and the Sports world, the tectonic shift in motorsports. If Africans can participate in motorsports as already demonstrated in motocrossnaija, a whole new industry capable of changing the socio economic conditions of Black Africans is about to take off.

Thousands Gather in Tahrir Square to Protest Egyptian Presidential Candidates

Posted: 14 Apr 2012 04:52 AM PDT

Friday April 13th was a day of protests in the center of Cairo. Early in the morning, thousands of protesters flocked to Tahrir Square for a scheduled noon rally to protest Oman Suleiman and other Mubarak regime members participating in the new government; and Hazem Salah Abu Ismail's apparent ban from running for President.

Hundreds of people began arriving as early as 6am to stake out prime spots along the sides of the square. They brought their blankets, couch cushions and picnic lunches. Fathers and mothers had their children in tow. Street vendors sold a variety of easy-to-go meals. Egyptian flags obscured much of the square. It was going to be an all-day affair. And in fact, the protests at Tahrir lasted well past 9pm. As one taxi driver put it, "You don't go near Tahrir [today]. It's closed."

A point of contention that sparked yesterday's protests was Omar Suleiman's bid for the presidency. The former Egyptian army general announced on April 6th that he would run for the office of the President. Suleiman, a long time figure in the Mubarak regime, was appointed at the end of last January to the post of Vice President. He only served for a few weeks before Mubarak and his government was ousted by the Revolution. To many of the protestors in Tahrir Square he symbolized the old regime that they worked so hard to topple.

Just the day prior to Friday's protests, Egypt's new parliament passed legislation banning top officials who served under the former dictator, Hosni Mubarak, from being elected to prominent offices in the new government. This law will not go into effect until the military approves it. This may be unlikely with a minister in the army cabinet terming the law a deviation from Egypt's path and a ploy to target a few individuals, Suleiman being one of them.

The Muslim Brotherhood coordinated Friday's Tahrir Square protests, though most people at the gathering did not hear about the event directly from the political organization. "They learned of the protest through Facebook," Sayed Ali, a local archaeologist explained, "The party [the Brotherhood] created a Facebook event and people shared it with family and friends." A prominent member of the Brotherhood spoke to the crowd of thousands. People sat on the ground and quietly listened for over two hours as the speaker condemned Suleiman's run for presidency.

Also, at the protest were supporters of Hazem Salah Abu Ismail, The Salafist candidate, who was thought ineligible for the presidency because his mother had US citizenship. These supporters paraded around signs of their candidate and spoke to the "injustice" of their presidential candidate being banned from the elections.

By 9pm, only Ismail supporters were left in Tahrir Square and they had much to celebrate. Egypt's highest court had announced late yesterday that Ismail's mother did not in fact have US Citizen; he would be allowed to run for President of Egypt.

Thousands rally against ex-regime presidential candidates

Tens of thousands of Islamists protested in Tahrir square on Friday, April 13, against ex-regime candidates running for presidency. Revolutionary groups didn't attend the protest as they already called for a mass protest in Tahrir square on April 20 with the same demands and also due to tension with Islamists.

Cougar Town Fans Work to Keep Their Favorite Show on the Air

Posted: 13 Apr 2012 10:44 AM PDT

The critically acclaimed sitcom, Cougar Town, hasn't been treated very fairly. Its ratings on Wednesdays at 9:30pm were steady for two years with extremely loyal fans. However, ABC put in on hiatus during season two to allow other shows to debut and then waited nine months before airing season 3 with a new and very incompatible time slot.

Creators, Bill Lawrence and Kevin Biegel kept fans engaged over the long hiatus by placing Cougar Town stars in the background of other shows during the Fall so fans could kind of play a version of "Where's Waldo?" In November, when ABC announced that not only would season 3 be delayed even more, but that the season was now to be shortened from 22 to 15 episodes, Lawrence and Biegel got even more creative. They held viewing parties at bars across the country for their loyal fans. Within minutes, tickets for these viewing parties were gone and bars filled up with fans meeting Cougar Town stars and writers watching unaired episodes and enjoying free drinks.

In January, it was finally announced that Cougar Town was to return on Tuesday, February 14th at 8:30pm. Fans were skeptical about what this meant for ratings because not many stay home on Valentine's Day to watch TV. Aside from that, it would air behind Last Man Standing- the Tim Allen sitcom with a much different demographic. Cougar Town was also to be up against NCIS, the highest rated show on TV, and Glee. Because of its late season debut, its incompatible lead in would also be a rerun for multiple weeks. Perhaps this time slot would not have been so bad if Cougar Town hadn't been off for nearly a year so it wouldn't have that "out of sight out of mind" element for the casual viewer/ nielsen families working against. But fans were so ecstatic to finally have their show back, that they just started counting down the days anyway.

Ratings for season 3 have been less than stellar. ABC has practically stopped promoting the show and they kept it off for two weeks to air a Dancing with the Stars recap show...you know, in case fans forgot what they had just seen the night before. ABC owns Cougar Town and would financially benefit from its success so its vendetta against it doesn't quite make sense.

Devoted fans have now taken it amongst themselves to promote Cougar Town and convince ABC to keep it on the air. Fans from all over have come together on twitter and through donations have gathered over 3500 wine corks that are on their way to ABC along with notes from fans about why their favorite show should be saved. Fans in the New York area even paid a visit to Good Morning America on Friday, April 6th to stand in the audience with "Watch Cougar Town" signs. They successfully got on TV and thereby promoted Cougar Town more than ABC. They have also sent constant emails to the network and have been trying to get the support of sponsors by tweeting them during commercial breaks and purchasing their products while thanking them for supporting Cougar Town.

Cougar Town is a heart-warming, hilarious comedy that is kind of a combination of the hit shows Scrubs and Friends. The sitcom, starring Courteney Cox, is NOT about cougars, neither the animal nor older women chasing younger men. It is a show about adult friendship and drinking wine and playing silly games. It is unique and severely underrated. The creators, stars, and writers have made themselves available to fans on twitter giving them extra content and personal responses. Unlike most other TV shows, they truly care. This amazing show, the devoted fans, and the wonderful people behind it deserve to be rewarded with a fourth season.

Sheep World New Zealand

Posted: 12 Apr 2012 03:52 AM PDT

'Been here before and we've come back again - this time with our little one who enjoyed what we have 5 years ago.

The place is called Sheep World in Warkworth, New Zealand. Some 65 odd kms away from Auckland. It's a farm, shop, lodge, petting zoo, cafe, and showgrounds - where local people and their dogs exhibit the town's own unique style of handling sheep.

There are many 'sheep worlds' in New Zealand. But this one in Warkworth is special.
