George Clooney arrested at Sudanese protest

Posted: 16 Mar 2012 11:05 AM PDT

Actor and activist George Clooney was arrested this morning after speaking outside the Sudanese Embassy in Washington, DC.

Clooney, Co-founder of the Enough Project John Prendergast, NAACP President Ben Jealous, Martin Luther King III, actor and comedian Dick Gregory, U.S. Congressmen Jim Moran and Jim McGovern, and the Advancement of Colored People President Ben Jealous gave brief speeches about the on-going humanitarian crisis taking place in Sudan; they demanded that the Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir stop the blockade that is preventing the people in Sudan from getting food and humanitarian aid.

Following the brief speeches, all were arrested for crossing a police line and were transported to the Metropolitan police department second district, according to Secret Service spokesman George Oglivie.

Clooney's rep released this statement after his arrest: "They were protesting the violence committed by the government of Sudan on its own innocent men, women and children. They were demanding they allow humanitarian aid into the country before it becomes the largest humanitarian crisis in the world."

Clooney has been in Washington this week, where he met President Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on the humanitarian crisis in Sudan. He also testified before Congress, calling the acts in Sudan "a campaign of murder."

The First in line for the new iPad

Posted: 16 Mar 2012 07:56 AM PDT

I spoke to this guy who was first in line at the Apple Store in Columbia mall in Maryland.

This is his 3rd time and he was really excited for this release.

Me and my wife got there at about 5:45 am and were the 35th ones in line. The store opened up at 8am with approximately 125 people in line and by 845am the line was gone.

The iPad from a precursory glance, is nearly indistinguishable from the iPad 2. I feel no difference in the weight or size of it. As a matter of fact, my old case (I bought a front and back protector for the iPad 2) fits my new one perfectly.

The Retina Display is definently noticeable and some pages seem to load up a bit faster.

I still have a lot of breaking in to do but so far, so good.

For the sake of "Sake"

Posted: 16 Mar 2012 01:00 AM PDT

I took a brief observation tour into Sake storage house of an old brewery, Homei Shuzo, located in Sasayama city, Hyogo, Japan.
A large cedar ball, hung in front of the shop, means this year's Sake is ready to serve.
Look inside, and you'll find various bottles are displayed in the shelves. But there is something inappropriate in the middle. Speakers. Now they are listening to classical music! Comfortable music makes the taste of Sakes mellow and moderate. Not only for bottled products, yeast in bed next door seem to enjoy their relaxed rests until the time of shipping out.

Chile: gas, water-canons, demonstrations... School is in !

Posted: 15 Mar 2012 12:54 PM PDT

Today there were student demonstrations everywhere in Chile. Summer holidays are over, school started last week & students took to the streets again to demonstrate. I don't know how many students demonstrated today, however I witnessed confrontations @ the Law School with the police in front of the prestigious Universidad de Chile .
Nobody seemed to be hurt but there was plenty of gas and water spraying. I got soaked & had my share of gas.
Students have been demonstrating since June 2011 to improve the educational system.

Storm Aftermath

Posted: 15 Mar 2012 03:50 AM PDT

MALTA 15 March. STORM AFTERMATH.
Last Saturday's storm caused widespread damage all over the Island. Severe Gale Force North Easterly winds and heavy rain lashed out all day. Uprooted trees, damaged buildings, flooded roads and collapsed walls and ripping off Solar Panels from roof tops. High waves, some well over 6 meters battered the exposed shores and causing havoc to Fish Farms. One Tuna Pen from a Fish Farm from the northern coastal waters broke its moorings and ended up in Pembroke Bay, ending up lodged between rocks and severely damaged.

Trayvon Martin dead. Am I next?

Posted: 14 Mar 2012 06:15 PM PDT

The Trayvon Martin killing highlights a real issue that black people and especially black men face on a daily basis: being killed for just doing what we're supposed to do. In 2012, some people still believe that we don't belong in certain neighborhoods, cars, or places of employment and, unlike other racial groups, it can really cost us our lives. I wish people would not minimize this all too real experience for us.

OtterBox kept things fun in their booth with break dancers.  The breakdance crew break FX did flips, spun on their heads an defied gravity throughout their performance.  They announced that they will do a live performance tonight on 6th street.  Great show and some cool products.
